ALEJO CARPENTIER
MAN OF A CENTURY
International Interdisciplinary Symposium to be held
in Vienna
May 4 - 6, 2004
As a writer as well as a politician, as a musicologist
and architect as well as a journalist and as an conductor as well as a
mediator Alejo Carpentier can be found at the crossroads of 20th century
culture. Remembering his 100th birthday in 2004 and the influences he drew
on literature, politics, music and mentalities, the interdisciplinary
conference MAN OF A CENTURY wants to discuss those very different and
widely spread aspects by presenting new approaches and research in the
fields of literature, history, musicology and politics.
The conference will be held in Vienna between May 4th and
May 6th 2004 organised by the University of Music and Dramatic Arts (the
Institute for the Sociology of Music and the Institute for Analysis,
Theory and History of Music).
There will be a musical program, film projections,
readings of Carpentier and a Cuban reception.
